SPEAK OUT!® Therapy for Parkinson Disease
Parkinson’s disease can impact the muscles used for speech and swallowing, often resulting in a soft voice, unclear speech, and difficulty being understood. These changes can begin early and may worsen over time without support. The SPEAK OUT!® program, developed by the Parkinson Voice Project, is a research-based therapy designed specifically for individuals with Parkinson’s and related disorders. Therapy focuses on intentional speech to strengthen vocal clarity and volume. The intensive program includes individual sessions, education, and daily home practice. Exercises target breath support, articulation, and cognitive engagement to support communication in everyday life.
Treatment may include:

Individual SPEAK OUT!® Sessions
One-on-one sessions led by a certified SPEAK OUT!® provider. Clients attend 2–3 sessions per week over 4 weeks.

Workbook & Home Practice
Clients receive a free SPEAK OUT!® workbook and are guided in daily at-home exercises to reinforce gains.

Education & Empowerment
Clients and caregivers learn how Parkinson’s affects speech and what they can do to preserve communication abilities for the long term.

Transition to Group Sessions
After completing individual therapy, clients are encouraged to join maintenance groups—where available—to stay engaged and continue practicing intentional speech.

Progress You Can Hear
With consistent therapy and practice, individuals with Parkinson’s can experience noticeable improvements in voice strength and clarity. Listen to a real example of progress made through the SPEAK OUT!® program.

Therapy That Reflects Your Daily Life
Therapy goes beyond the therapy room. Sessions may incorporate real-life speaking situations—such as practicing phone calls, ordering in public, or managing conversation in noisy settings. The goal is to help individuals stay connected, be understood, and preserve their voice—both literally and in terms of self-identity.
